Here's a few up close shots of the Ishi arrow replicas and the broken glass point that did the job on this years little "Ishi-bow spike" that some of you requested to see. I blind carbon copied this email to a number of you out there as I do with all my emails.

I put in the #7 rib that the arrow hit and actually broke in half on it's way into the chest cavity. The point broke too but the arrow kept going since the range was so close. If the point hadn't hit and broke both it and the rib, I have no doubt the arrow would have hit the opposite chest wall and probably come out the other side to some extent. It didn't in this case but it did go through both lungs and put the deer down very fast. I could not find all of the glass point try as I might. A fair sized mid section is missing but you can see the point compared to an intact one next to it nearly identical in size in the photos. They were as close of copies as I could make of the Ishi's glass points that came from the Grizzly Bears Hiding Place in 1908 on Deer Creek, about 1 1/2" long and about 5/8" wide, same size and shape as Ishi's points were. Conclusion...they work well when the shot placement is right and the small size still provides very deep penetration, better than a big wide point would I think.

I can send bow shots later if anyone one wants to see. It's made of juniper, backed with deer sinew, with a sinew string and pulls 42# at about 22". The shot distance from where I was sitting to where the spike deer was on the trail iin front of my blind was about 10 feet, almost too close really. I found him in some dense timber about 100 yds. away about 1/2 hour later after I gave him some time to lay down. I doubt he lasted more than a minute if even that after the shot.
